    Computer Tips and Tricks

Windows - Is your "Program" list getting a bit big? Click Start, Programs (or "All Programs"), right-click on any item and choose "Sort by Name." Now, you're organized!

Internet - Not seeing the whole page? Hit F11 to temporarily view more. Hitting F11 again, toggles it back. Very useful on
text-intensive sites!

Word - Double-clicking anywhere on an un-edited portion of your document will place the cursor there, automatically inserting as many hard-returns and alignment changes as necessary.

Excel - Formatting cells is one of the largest tasks you'll run into. Instead of pulling down the "Format" menu and choosing "Cells," just hit Ctrl-1 (that's a one). Big time saver!

QuickBooks - Name your price levels. Use Price Levels to automatically adjust a certain customer’s sales price for inventory parts, non-inventory parts and service items. For example, you might create a price level called “wholesale” and specify a decrease of 20%. Then, when you sell an item and attach the “wholesale” price level, the amount of that
item is automatically reduced by 20%.

    Workplace Topic

A good question to consider whether you’re evaluating or being evaluated: Why does this company need you?

When designing a form that you might be faxing, fax the form to yourself to see if the design is working. If it’s difficult to read any of the form after it’s been faxed, you should rework it.

Before you buy a computer or software, call the maker’s toll-free help numbers. Reason: If you can’t get through or must hold a long time, you’ll be better able to decide which companies you don’t want to deal with.

Volunteer for the tough jobs that no one else wants. It may be risky, but if you do them well, you’ll become known as a “can-do” person.

Deflect minor interruptions when you’re on a tight deadline with this approach: “I’d like to give a hand, but I’m on a major project with a tight deadline. If 10 minutes of my time would help, come back at 4:45 and we’ll talk.

Consider communicating to co-workers that you have a “no-surprise” rule. Make withholding bad news the worst thing that a colleague can do.
