    Computer Tips and Tricks

These are just a few of the many tips and shortcuts taught in our classes. Enjoy!

Windows- Need to use the menu WITHOUT using the mouse? Press the ALT key and

the underlined letter of the menu item you want to open.

Internet - Want to organize your mile-long Favorites list? Hit Ctrl-B. (In most Microsoft programs,
this keyboard combination results in bolded text, but not here...)

Word - The less you use the toolbar, the more you'll get done. Next time you need to

format some text, use the following QUICK keyboard combo's: Ctrl-B = Bold, Ctrl-I = Italics,

Ctrl-U = Underline.

Excel - Right-click on any toolbar to see ALL of the available toolbars at your disposal. You can
easily turn on or off any of them, depending on how much screen real estate you want to give up.

QuickBooks– Count Correctly: If you give 30, 60, or 90 day due-dates on your invoices, check your settings to make sure you have the box marked for Age from Due Date, not Age from Transaction Date.  Edit > Preferences > Reports & Graphs > Company Preferences > Aging Report.

Guidelines for Good Service

Good customer service requires more than a catchy formula or slogan. Your team members are wise enough to question empty phrases, but there’s nothing wrong with boiling a few guiding principles down into an easy-to-remember format. When it comes to customer service, your team members will deliver the best if they remember these five Ps:

  1. Be Proud. They should have confidence in themselves. The customer sees them as experts, ready and able to deliver solutions.
  2. Be Professional. Always put the customer first.
  3. Be Polite. Customers deserve your respect and consideration, no matter what kind of day you’re having.
  4. Be Prompt. Never keep a customer waiting.
  5. Be Personal. Your customers want to be treated as individuals, not as the next person in line.

    Tech Support Humor

Tech Support: How may I help you?

Customer: I’m writing my first email.

Tech Support: OK, and what seems to be the problem?

Customer: Well, I have the letter “A” in the address, but how do I get the circle around it?
